The Veil

On this night, the veil between this world and the next grows thin. The spirits of those who came before us are near, and they hear us when we call upon them. All part of the endless cycle, life and death walk hand in hand, side by side. Without one, we cannot have the other. As light begins to fade, we embrace the dark part of the year, knowing that without the darkness, the light is meaningless. Take time to reflect on what this new year means to you, and what it meant to those we call the Ancient Ones. May your ancestors look upon you proudly as you honor them tonight.

Blessed Be
)O(

Nearly there …

Three papers down three more to go. I’m tired, rundown and generally had enough. BUT fucking happy I have made it through my first year with consistent A’s and B’s.

I did my book presentation today and it went fantastically. We had a wander around and got to look at everyone’s books and I had an absolute giggle with another couple of classmates watching students pick up my book, open the cover and realise that they were looking at an S&M book. Quick sideways glances to make sure no one was looking at them then head down and mesmerized by the images and information inside. Or the other was a gaggle of them tittering and pointing and wide mouthed staring at it pulling their mates over to look. My class understood why I did the book and after talking to them about discriminatory aspects and the nature of privacy for many I recieved some very interesting questions as well as a good understanding of the topic. I’m more than pleased with the results. Even my tutor is itching to read it now haha.

We had a get together today to discuss next years options as far as our major paper and it seems the university I am with is doing something that is new and no other university has done it as of yet. They trialled it last year on the condition they had 20 students wanting to major in this specific paper and it’s gone extremely well. So what is it?

Pictorial Studies.

The degree is a Bachelor in Design. The major paper being GDS or ‘Graphic Design Studies’. I have flown through this paper with top grades. So next year i now have a choice. I can continue to major in Graphic Design OR I can major in Pictorial Studies. They need 20+ students that are interested in pursuing this as a major before they will consider offering it again next year and we will find out at the end of the week.

It means I will be majoring in Illustration (I signed up for it) and graphic design is a part of this but the focus is more illustration and media work. We will be having some of the country’s top illustrators teaching us as well as the main tutor who has been nothing but fantastic as far as pulling out of me a long dormant talent I thought I’d had lost. The scope of the type of work I can do is immense but basically illustration based. Advertising, books, artwork, branding, graphic novels, comic, animation yada yada yada.

We still do digital work for graphic design, and on top of that have elective topics such as digital painting, bookbinding, letterpress, screenprinting and various other papers we can take. Others can opt to pursue advertising as a major too. Photography and life Drawing will also be included as papers.

If I thought this years workload was immense, next years is going to be even more of a challenge. So at the moment I have a few things set in place to try and create a better workspace for myself and a few lifestyle changes to get myself sorted for next year.

I have a review for a awesome toy half written and am off to the local fetish ball this weekend to have a wee bit of an unwind. I’ll post about it later.

It’s midnight and I need sleep, another full day tomorrow. Arrghhh.

One more week, one more week, one more week.

I am hermiting it inside on a fantastically, sunny holiday weekend cramming university papers with a sinus & chest infection.

2 papers finished, 4 to go. Hopefully I’ll have three more nearly done by Tuesday.

Apparently I am ignoring the fact I am ill.

Heh.

Fuck yes.

I have stuff to get done.

Stress & the flu can fuck right off.

Busy.

Mentoooor! (emphasised with a ‘rawr’)

“I think all of us who have been ‘at it’ for a while should offer help”

Yanno I’ve seen this wee statement more times than I’d like when it comes to BDSM. And yes it irks me. Should is a relative term. I disagree, not everyone has to offer help and in some cases it’s the wrong kind of help.

‘Mentoring’ is a wide and varied tern when it comes to BDSM. When it comes to ‘online mentoring I find it very dubious. Yes there are some very lovely people who I know of that do mentor but it’s not for everyone and it is a term that can be used in a not so good way. There are munches, workshops, camps, and various other ways to learn how to do something. And there is no one way to learn. I’ve had emails from random strangers offering to “train” me, turn me into a better submissive blah blah blah. Thing is I didn’t ask, nor want that form of *cough* help.

Sometimes talking things over with another lower case letter friend is an interesting process and helps me get my head around certain things and it helps.

I’ve seen Dominants and Domme’s teaching one another new skills or talking through things. To me “mentoring” is normally a more experienced or more knowledgeable person helps a less experienced or less knowledgeable person, and in a business situation I’ve been in that role as well as been on the receiving end but when it comes to D/s I find it a bit weird when a Dominant or a Domme wants to ‘mentor’ a submissive/slave usually because in most cases it’s dubious and thrown out as an offer online for someone to get their rocks off. But hey that’s just what i have found in my travels and i find it a bit of a laugh.

Personally I steer away from it as it doesn’t have any bearing on my kink escapades. But in RL situations with genuine people there is more of an information exchange, processing things and a sharing of a skills base. These days I talk to people I trust and know well if I need help with anything but a desire to be “mentored”? Nah. I’m a little more selective as to whom I talk to about certain things. There has to be common ground and similar kink interests for me to share information, and generally it’s an intuition thing. After a while it becomes plainly obvious when someone is just looking for a ‘hook up’ and really doesn’t give a shit about other aspects.

So in light of one having a ‘responsibility to help’ … impy is offering to be a mentor.

‘beams’

All applications are to be on yer knees, nekkid, eyes cast downwards and pictures I can fap to.

In less than 10 words convince me why I should mentor you.

On your marks, get set … GO ‘grins’
