This heart isn’t quite right
It’s a bit battered & bruised
Mistrust rife, fear suffocating it
Scared to open it up again
Lest another crack appears
It can’t take much more
All it wants is to be cherished
Shown how to feel warmth again
Gently coaxed out from behind the shadows
The shadows that mute it’s very being
Some bits are a bit lumpy,
Some are scarred badly,
Some parts have been buried
Some hold memories dear
The crux pierced to the core
But most of all is the fear
Of forgetting how to love
The journey
Is how to find it again
The heart beats
Quietly

This is heart-wrenchingly sad; almost makes me weep reading it, knowing as I do, the pain of which you speak. Darkly beautiful and touching……thank you.

Sometimes the darkness helps us see the light
… or simply allows us to understand there is light and dark and both are required to learn *hugs*
